Voluntary Journalist/Producer/Presenter/Technician - Volunteering Show 93.7 Expr, Express FM

This job is located in Portsmouth (map)
See our directory page for Express FM

Money_deleteThis is not a paid job - show paid jobs only

NOTE: This is an unpaid voluntary role for a non-profit community station. This advert therefore complies with Media UK's conditions for posting unpaid roles ( see http://www.mediauk.com/article/32681 )

You will be working in a team of other unpaid volunteers on the show. This is not work experience and it is not a full-time role. Other team members give between 2 and 5 hours each week. It is flexible.

Volunteering on the Volunteering Show is a real hands on local opportunity in Portsmouth and south East Hampshire to get into the career of multimedia journalism. The show is one of the station's flagship speech shows and covers a wide breadth of topics with each in depth.

From the very first show you get involved there is the opportunity to learn (or enhance existing) skills such as:

* researching
* planning
* people networking
* scripting
* interviewing
* writing for the web
* sound engineering
* podcasting
* videocasting
* teamwork

Hands on experience and training is available in all the above areas and you are very welcome to get involved in everything or just a few specific things. For example you may want to just research and interview guests or you may prefer to produce and become technically skilled. But both are certainly possible. Many of the skills are also transferrable into similar or completely different careers

We are always looking for new additions to the team because our vision is to pack more features into each weekly hourly show, from a variety of people including yourself to make the show ever more colourful and of interest to the listener

No need to wait for months for a place or a course to start, you can start this week by getting involved. Experience on the show provides a good feel for the today's multimedia world and you may then wish to enrol on a media course with one of Express FM's partners - such as Highbury College - highbury.ac.uk. Or you may just enjoy doing the show - all of the team enjoy the variety of people and subjects on the show.

The show is broadcast live on Wednesdays 7pm-8pm. If you want to present/interview live then you'd need to be available on Wednesday evenings. But even if you're not, you could do vital behind the scenes work or prerecorded interviews for play out on the show. All of the team have other commitments such as daytime jobs our study and fit in upto a few hours each week preparing and running the show. Of course, this can be less - for example you may wish to volunteer monthly. It's flexible.

This role is advertised on the expressfm.com website - see:

Although a closing date is shown, this is open ended - we will always welcome volunteers.
